The Dance Program offers practical courses in Ballet, Modern, Jazz/Hip-Hop, Tap, Strength and Stretch / Pilates and Barre, and Choreography/Performance Production. Most courses involve performances at the end of the semester, which serve as the final exam. Dance students who choose to be more involved have additional opportunites to choreograph, perform, and attend conferences such as the annual American College Dance Association conference and other outreach projects on campus and in the community. Through the dance program, students learn skills in dance, fitness, general wellness, collaboration, critical thinking, and creative composition. 

Program Level Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Examine dance from a historical, cultural, and scientific point of view.
  2. Practice the fundamental skills and techniques necessary for the public performance of dance.
  3. Employ practical skills in the production aspects of dance.
  4. Demonstrate the craft and aesthetic qualities of dance orally, practically, and in writing.
  5. Practice technique in modern dance, ballet, and jazz dance to facilitate careers in education, health and fitness, or performance arenas, or to further academic preparation in dance studies.
