Completion of this program will award the graduate with the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and prepare the graduate for a seamless transition to a Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) program. The graduate is eligible to apply for the National Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (RN-NCLEX).
Program Admission Requirements
Applications are accepted once a year. Admission is offered in the Fall semester only. Visit our website for the application filing period dates.
Complete the LVN-RN Nursing Application which includes the following:
- Attach all unofficial transcripts from ALL colleges attended including the course work not applied toward the nursing program.
- Proof of high school graduation (copy of diploma or official transcripts). If you already have a college degree as evidenced by unofficial transcript submitted, go to step #3.
- Copy of your current LVN license without restriction.
- BIOL G220 Human Anatomy, BIOL G225 Human Physiology, BIOL G210 General Microbiology must be completed within the last 7 years.
- Current direct patient care experience as an LVN (employer verification letter - minimum of 1 year work experience in patient care).
- Signature on Page2 of the application acknowledging your understanding of consequences on falsification of information on the application.
- Attach an unofficial TEAS report.
- Send official transcripts separately to GWC Admissions and Records by the last day of the application filing date.
- Students of Coast District (GWC, OCC, and Coastline Colleges) DO NOT need to submit official transcripts. Unofficial transcripts are accepted.
Failure to complete this process results in an incomplete application and is ineligible for processing.
Selection Process
- All complete applications submitted by the deadline are evaluated.
- Admission is based on cohort space availability.
- Qualified applicants who are not selected are encouraged to re-apply next to the next application period. We do not maintain a waitlist.
- Admission offer will be sent to the CCCD student email address.
Program Requirements
Students admitted to the Nursing Program must complete clinical training hours at our affiliated healthcare agencies. All clinical health and other requirements must be completed prior to the program start date:
- Clear background check (criminal and/or civil) for the last 7 years.
- Review the BRN webiste (http://www.rn.ca.gov) for background concerns prohibiting a graduated nurse from being eligible to take the State RN licensure examination. Link to BRN FAQS regaring prior convictions and disciplinary actions and webinar (https://www.rn.ca.gov/applicants/lic-faqs.shtml#disciplinel).
- Clear urine drug screening.
- Titer and immunizations per Healthcare Agency requirements and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines.
- Social Security Number or Tax Identification Number (ITIN).
- Required for program admission and to be eligible for the CA Board of Registered Nursing State Licensing Examination.

These two classes may be taken before starting the nursing program or during any semester of the nursing program. If the student has a Bachelor’s degree they may not need to take these two classes.

Placement in the nursing program is based on an individual assessment of academic readiness, clinical competence, and work experience.
